SYRAH 2015

SYRAH 2015
Beautifully intense color is only the beginning in the 1-2 punch this bottle provides. Loaded with all the smoky meatiness for which Syrah is known, there are also delicate floral, vanilla and baking spice aromas. Mouth-watering chocolate and licorice invites a sip of velvety richness that makes the dense tannins harmonious against the toasty oak, plum and raspberry fruit flavors. A bright finish allows for further successful cellaring if desired. A rack of ribs with a side of cowboy beans is an easy pairing but perhaps toasted marshmallow s’mores at the campfire might also pair?

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Grown in several cooler locations in Napa, our Syrah vineyards offer jammy texture combined with tobacco smoke character. We allow the large, ovoid berries to start to dimple and pucker on their loose clusters before harvesting. Syrah typically has a high acid structure and patience is necessary to wait for the fruit to develop the proper flavor in the field. The dimpling in the ripe fruit is only a visual sign, which in combination with excessive tasting, will provide the winery with the desirable lush, new world style Syrah at harvest. Gentle care is taken to create a richly nuanced wine. Blending with Petite Sirah provides mid-palate structure where the tannins often attempt to overpower the beautiful fruit our vineyards deliver.
Production Notes
With heavy December rainfall, we had hoped for a normal wet month of February. Instead we saw the earliest bud break on record and an equally long spring of frost protection worries. However the warm, dry winter brought us our 4th year of drought, freak hail storms and a long, extended bloom in our red varieties. We called the vintage the “hot tub time machine” which behaved much like our 2007 vintage. It began fast and early, but experience has taught us to have patience to wait for flavor development in order to create wines of which to be proud…again!
